s ANNOUNCE NEW AFFILIATION WITH THE TORONTO BLUE JAYSLas Vegas: The Las Vegas 51
s Baseball Team announced today that they have signed a two-year PlayerDevelopmental Contract (PDC) with the Toronto Blue Jays and will remain a Triple-A franchise within the Pacific
Coast League. Don Logan, President and General Manager of the 51s and Dick Scott, Director of Player
Development for the Toronto Blue Jays made the announcement today at Cashman Field.
“It’s an exciting move for us being the affiliate of the Blue Jays,” said Logan. “The Dodgers affiliation was good for both us and Las Vegas, but they had a desire to move to a newer facility and re-engage a historic relationship.
Our job is to bring quality baseball to the fans and the Blue Jays will certainly provide us with the players to do that.” The 51s started playing baseball in Las Vegas in 1983 as the Stars and were originally the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres winning PCL Championships in 1986 and 1988. 2001 saw the team name change to the 51s along with the affiliate to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Earlier this year the Stevens Family Trust bought the 51s and the long anticipated name change has been postponed with no definite time table set. “The delay in Dodgers notifying us of its decision not to renew the PDC hampered our ability with respect to identifying the proper name and color scheme,” said Chuck Johnson, Asst. GM / VP of Marketing.
